The Four Paws Acupuncture June e-letter

Happy June!

I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather. And of course warmer weather means FLEAS! This mini-edition includes a few natural solutions to those pesky bugs.

Please note that Four Paws Acupuncture will be closed fromWednesday June 12 through June 17, 2019.

I will not be making house-calls or seeing patients at Our Family Veterinary Services that week. Please make arrangements to schedule your pet's sessions before or after this week in advance.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and flea-free June!

Thank you,
jeanie mossa MS, L.Ac.

When Fleas Invade

To rid your home of fleas, get a box of 20 Mule Team Borax (available in your grocery store laundry aisle), and spread it lightly over your carpet. Use a broom to sweep it deeply into the carpet. Wait a couple of hours then vacuum. The residual Borax that remains in the carpet will kill the fleas and their larvae simply by drying them out.

Make sure your pets do not walk on the floor while the Borax is there. It can be absorbed into their feet.

When washing dog or cat beds, towels and sheets sprinkle Borax on them before washing as a precaution to kill any eggs that might be hiding in the fibers.

Herbal Flea Spray

This is recommended after vacuuming the Borax off the carpets and washing all pet beds.

In a large spray bottle mix:
  • 4 liters of apple cider vinegar
  • 2 liters of water
  • 500 ml of lemon juice
  • 250 ml of witch hazel

Spray the natural flea remedy to your home on carpets, furniture, pet bedding, window sills, and floors.
DO NOT SPRAY ON YOUR PETS!
Plants That Keep Fleas Away:
  • Penny Royal
  • Chrysanthemums
  • Lavender
  • Spearmint

Blast from the Past

This photo is at least 10 years old! Our original Four Paws Acupuncture Bark Mobile VW bug with white paws all over it.

This wonderful wookie looking dog is Zach, who belonged to a good friend here in Salem MA. Zach passed a few years ago. He was so much fun to be around. Our cat Nubi juan Kenobi love him too.

When we lived here 7 years ago, Four Paws Acupuncture was making house calls all over the North Shore. It wore down the car. Then during our move to VA, I had to drive the car from MA to VA all the while praying it would make it.

The VW Bark Mobile literally died during a horrid rain storm when we were living in Virginia. It was donated to the SPCA and auctioned off for $900. Pawsome!

The new 4 Paws Acupuncture Bark Mobile will get some more paws on it as soon as it stops snowing here in Salem MA. Not as cute as the bug, but much more efficient and reliable.

Now that we are back in the North Shore area, I will limit making animal acupuncture house calls to Salem, Beverly and Peabody MA area. Please do note that I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, not a veterinarian.

Before treating any animal I must have a consent form filled out by your vet. And to quell any odd rumors, in the state of MA, it is legal for licensed acupuncturists to treat animals. Every state has their own laws concerning this.

Please note that during the session the owner must be in the room at all times. For a more peaceful session I ask that all phones, TVs, radio and any music or noise must be turned off. Schedule a time that the home is quiet so the dog or cat will be relaxed during the session. All forms must be filled out before the house call.
